'TINY JEWELS'

OUR LONG TIME FRIEND AND AMERICAN GOLD STAR MOTHER, VALERIE FORTNEY, WROTE THIS POEM FOR HER BELOVED SON BEN. WE THINK IT IS BEYOND BEAUTIFUL.

TINY JEWELS

Tiny jewels dance in my heart,

tiny jewels are my memories,
my treasure chest of you.
Your voice like garnet,
your laugh like solid gold.
Your love is like fine rubies

deep, vibrant shades unfold.
Your tenderness a fragile opal,
God’s love shining through
Your smile like diamonds,
strong, brilliant and true.
Your life a pearl,
a gift to all who knew you.
Tiny jewels dance in my heart,
tiny jewels are my memories,
my treasure chest of you.

CATAMOUNT TRAIL - SECTION 1

The southern most section of the Catamount Trail...because it begins on orivate land with no public access, you ski south to the state marker, turn around and backtrack northward. Quirky.

It was a good start, I learned a lot.

Navigation

I admit that navigation is my scaredy squirrel for this journey. The Catamount Trail Association does a great job with route summaries, written directions, maps ect.

However, retaining written descriptions...."exit the woods into an open meadow and ski across a beaver dam (not visible in deep snow), ski northeast along the West side of the river and reenter a mostly yellow birch forest to the north west side, approximately 300 yards past a stand of small fir trees."

Oh, okay...sure.

I am going to call some trail chiefs.

A Ring For Charlotte

My delightful encourager and friend, Charlotte visited my studio for a VIP luncheon and art 'recess' among my unset gem collection.

I love to play with precious metal and gems in mosaics of color, texture and shape at my design bench and Charlotte jumped right in too, finding a large, faceted, Canary 'Diamond' quartz that captured her heart just as it had mine when I found it on a gem hunting trip.

A Gold ring design is taking form in my head

Words coming together to create this rings story... Art deco - Canary - royal - crown setting - side diamonds

Happy Tour#25

While Bill is checking the oil...again.

We were moving at 55 to 60 mph on a secondary highway across central Kansas, neck and neck with the pony express trail. The hypnotic, rolling cadence of corn, soybean and billboard bible verses moved in and out of focus on the rolling terrain.

we drove for hours, seeing few other vehicles, when suddenly a white van crept up behind us, then disappeared over the rise ahead. It was hard to imagine getting anywhere fast on this vast, flattish prairie

we dropped over a rise and saw the van parked at the bottom and two long, scraggly haired men blocking the road and waving their arms wildly for us to stop. It didn't feel like a request but mildly commanding and both of us felt the aloneness of the place as we slowed the Triking to a hesitant stop in the center of the road.

We slowed...a little wary I admit and with huge smiles, laughter and delight, demand an explanation of our odd little vehicle with, "what the heck is that?!"

Christian motorcycle riders that refused to leave us without a sincere, down on one knee - side of the road - hand holding prayer. We smiled for miles and miles and miles.

Thank you 'Highwaymen of the Holy Ghost.'
